Medical Perspective: Anaesthesia
Anaesthesia is the medical specialty which is responsible for managing the pain of patients as well making sure that they stay sedated during operations. Usually this specialty forms the largest department in hospitals over the UK and around two thirds of all patients admitted to hospital come into contact with a doctor in this specialty.

Food wishlist
I'm born and raised in London but I never really appreciated the epicness of this city until I moved away for university last September and this has made me want to make the most of the city when I'm here. One of the first things I'm going to do when I'm back this summer (for 4 months!) is to go to some of the amazing restaurants my city has to offer:

One day...
One of the reasons that I want to become a doctor is so that I can help those people who need it the most but just because I have 6 more years until I graduate it doesn't mean that I still can't help out where possible.
In the UK we're lucky enough to have the NHS which, though some times annoying to deal with, provides us with all the medical care that we need free of charge in the moment. Unfortunately this is not the reality for e majority of people living around the world today. Because of this I'm saving up so that I can go on a medical/missionary volunteer placement next summer (which gives me plenty of time to save up! Haha) and here are a few of the places that I want to visit:
Food glorious food...
Before I left for Uni cooking a meal consisted of putting some chips in the oven and making sure it didn't burn. But since I've had to fend for myself I've grown tired of chips and chicken salads and have gotten excited about making some new dishes and here are a few that I want to try out:

Midi Skirts
Midi Skirts have been very dominant in shop windows and magazines over the past couple of seasons. I was a bit reluctant about the trend seeing as I'm only 5ft 2inches and I thought that they'd make me look smaller than I already am. But after my mum bought me the skirt below I think its a trend that I'll be following
Skirt: Matalan £10 |
As the skirt is not really an everyday-wear type piece I've been thinking about how I'd style this skirt and I've decided on two looks:
Casual(-ish)
Top: Miss Selfridges £12 Necklace: Dorothy Perkins £12.50 Shoes: Aldo £65 Clutch: River Island £25 |
With this look I've added an element of colour-blocking (the colour of the clutch is amazing!)

Let the games begin!
I remember in the time up to my interviews for medical school myself and other students in our sixth forms medical society were panicking as we tried to wrap our head around these reforms in the very scary case that we were asked a question about it. These reforms were first proposed in 2012 under the Health and Social Care act causing the largest shake up of the NHS since it began. Under this act GP's (family doctors) are placed in charge of 80% of the NHS budget (replacing Primary care trusts which were scrapped), patients have more control over the care that they receive and frontline doctors and nurses are also given more power. Another one of the more controversial changes was a move towards a market-based running of the NHS as opposed to a planned healthcare system which would allow for an increase in the number of private patients a hospital can have as well as the allowing of private companies to take over certain services at hospitals And on Monday 1st April 2013 this Act was put into action across all of the NHS.

Flower power

Floral patterned jeans have become a major fashion trend recently and they are a trend which is much more appealing to me than the monochrome one which is being featured heavily. I first saw it last year on Kristin Cavallari and I was reminded of my love for it when I saw Julianne Hough in a pair today.

Brownies

Soo instead of making mini versions of the pain au chocolat I decided to make me and my family some brownies and to add a bit of a twist by incorporating some hazelnuts. I used a recipe from food.com (here) but I added 2 tablespoons of milk, no vanilla extract and took them out of the oven after 20-ish minutes. [Btw 350 Fahrenheit = 180 degrees Celsius].
